The Readers

Middle aged German barrister Michael Berg recollects to himself his lifelong acquaintance with Hanna Schmitz, a relationship with whom he never disclosed to anyone close to him. Michael first met Hanna in 1958, when he was fifteen, she thirty-six. The two had a turbulent summer long love affair, dictated by Hanna that their encounters would begin with him reading to her followed by lovemaking. Michael next encountered Hanna in 1966, when Michael, now a law student, attended the Nazi war crimes trial of six female former S.S. concentration camp guards, one of whom is Hanna. Through listening to the testimony, Michael comes to the realization that he is in possession of information which could save Hanna from a life in prison, information which she herself is unwilling to disclose. In deciding what to do, Michael is torn between his differing views of justice.

BRUNO (2009)

Borat trickster Sacha Baron Cohen returns to the big screen to offer yet another stinging dose of sociopolitical satire in this comedy that finds him assuming the persona of gay fashionmonger Bruno, the self-proclaimed "voice of Austrian youth TV." Originally conceived as part of Cohen's cult television series Da Ali G Show, the character of Bruno offered a cleverly costumed Cohen the opportunity to highlight the absurdities of the fashion industry by interviewing unsuspecting fashion icons and other haute couture hangers-on. [D-Man2010]

Comedy lightning strikes twice for mickey-take meister Sacha Baron Cohen when his gay Austrian fashionista runs amok in America. In this bargain-basement narcissus' never-ending quest for "celebrity", Bruno attempts to seduce a onetime presidential hopeful, adopts a black African baby and provokes a near riot at a caged boxing bout in Texas. Essential exposure of redneck prejudice skips hand in hand with elaborate Candid Camera-style con tricks. Borat buffs will know exactly what to expect.

Trainspotting (1996)

ok ok.. not a new movie, but it's Smart, funny, sickly and sometimes just plain unconscious, MARK RENTON (Ewan McGregor) is a hero for our times. Set in an underbelly of Edinburgh the city fathers never dreamed of, TRAINSPOTTING is the story of MARK and his so-called friends - a bunch of losers, liars, psychos, thieves and junkies. Hilarious but harrowing, the film charts the disintegration of their friendship as they proceed, seemingly inevitably, towards self destruction. Mark alone has the insight and opportunity to escape his fate but then again, does he really want to "choose life"? hey ho let's watch!

Oeroeg (1993)

adapted from Hella Haase's Novel. a dutch Child, Johan and his Indonesian servant's child, Oeroeg grew up together. finnaly their life have different way. when they meet again at war, they're totally different and really hard to find their togetherness.
a movie which took Indonesia Independence War (1945-1949) as their setting. Most of them fell into two categories, propaganda and rubbish. Oeroeg was the best movie which took the era as it sets and ironically made by Netherland, which were Indonesia's enemy.
When the other movies only talk about the war, this movie took a deeper approaching. Why the Indonesian refused to be controlled by the Dutch. It showed the discrimination experienced by Indonesian as third class citizen in the Dutch rule.
The movie also showed a empathized-to-Indonesia-movement Dutch teacher which help Indonesia fighter degrading the fighting spirit of Dutch soldiers.
The dialog was also interesting. In the last scene, Johan, as the main character ask Oeroeg whether they have already in the same degree. Oeroeg's cynical reply is still relevant today.winning Best Actor (Beste Acteur)Rik Launspach in 1993. When the developed countries often call the other countries as the Third world, isn't it another form of humiliation in modern world?

Fanboys

Sam Huntington (Eric), Christopher Marquette (Linus), Dan Fogler (Hutch), Jay Baruchel (Windows) and Kristen Bell (Zoe).
There are enough good jokes in “Fanboys,” a road comedy about geeks on a “Star Wars”-related quest, to satisfy hard-core fans of that George Lucas franchise. But the film doesn’t have the boosters, or thrusters, or whatever, to elevate it to more ambitious heights; it’s weighed down by tired conventions and a general sense of having missed its moment. It’s 1998, and Sam Huntington, Christopher Marquette, Dan Fogler and Jay Baruchel play friends in Ohio who haven’t been able to let go of their childhood obsession with “Star Wars.” The plot device of young men who refuse to mature has never felt more exhausted, maybe because these actors or ones who look like them have already done this shtick in other movies.

The buddies decide they can’t wait any longer for the long-awaited “Phantom Menace” (which was released in 1999), and drive to California to steal a rough cut from Mr. Lucas’s ranch.

The trip is full of guy-road-trip clichés: a stop in Las Vegas, a trip to jail, assorted attempts to get female motorists to flash their breasts. But the film does get laughs out of the boys’ hostile encounters with fans of that other space franchise, “Star Trek,” and out of cameos by “Star Wars” alumni like Carrie Fisher.
